Hitter of the Week
Darwin Gregg – Bryan College (TN) – Senior outfielder Darwin Gregg barreled up some baseballs this past weekend. Bryan College faced the University of Northwestern Ohio and Indiana University Southeast. Gregg went 5-for-12, with four of his five hits being homeruns. He also tallied four walks and collected nine RBIs. The Lions were able to take both games versus IU Southeast and split with UNOH.
Pitcher of the Week
Dieterich Guertzegn - Missouri Valley College (MO)– The Vikings of Missouri Valley College had quite a unique start of their season. In their first game of the season, versus Saint Mary (KS), starting pitcher Dieterich Guertzegn threw a no-hitter. During the seven-inning game, he did not allow a hit or run, as he walked two and struck out eight. The senior pitcher from De Soto, MO needed just 96 pitches to complete the game. The Vikings ended up splitting the four-game series with Saint Mary.
Team of the Week
Southeastern University (#1) competed in the East/West Challenge this past weekend. On Thursday the Fire played against #19 Benedictine University-Mesa and #11 Hope International University. Two days later they took on #3 Lewis-Clark State College to complete the series in Glendale, AZ.
During the game versus Benedictine University-Mesa, third baseman Isaac Nunez led the Fire at the plate. He went 3-for-4, scoring two runs, while driving in three. After nine innings, the final score was 11-4.
Darien Smith helped SEU big time on the mound during the second game on Thursday. He threw 7.2 innings of no-hit baseball, in which he struck out ten. Southeastern ended up surrendering one run in the ninth, but scored nine making this a rather easy 9-1 victory versus Hope International.
The third and final game of the East/West Challenge for Southeastern was full of action. Josh Pigozzo and Landrey Wilkerson both drove the ball out of the park for the Fire. These longballs helped Southeastern to complete the sweep, as they beat Lewis-Clark State College 10-3. Southeastern was the only team in the East/West Challenge to stay undefeated, going 3-0. This makes them this week’s NAIA Ball Team of the week.
