Hitter of the week
Arderrius "Peeko" Townsend – Blue Mountain Christian University (MS) – Arderrius Townsend had himself a week in the batter’s box. During a midweek doubleheader versus Tougaloo College, he collected five hits, eight RBIs and two homeruns. He scored a total of four times in two games. He kept doing damage during the weekend, when SSAC play opened up at Brewton-Parker College. In the three-game conference series, Townsend homered once in each of the games. He collected a total of five hits over the weekend, while driving in six and scoring six times as well. Over the entire week, he homered a total of five times, while hitting .526 and driving in fourteen runs, making him the NAIA Ball Hitter of the Week.
Pitcher of the week
Isaac Baez – Mid-America Christian University (OK) – Senior right-handed pitcher Isaac Baez had his stuff working on Sunday versus Southwestern. In 6.2 innings he collected fifteen strikeouts, while only giving up one hit. He did surrender two runs (both earned) and walked four, but his outing was plenty good to earn the win and improve his record to 3-1 on the year. The Evangels ended up winning 13-2 in seven innings. He is this week’s NAIA Ball Pitcher of the Week.
Team of the week
Freed-Hardeman University played in the Midwest Clash on Saturday and Sunday. The faced Rochester, Northwestern Ohio, St. Xavier and IU South Bend. The Lions went 4-0, beating Rochester 14-1, Northwestern Ohio 4-3, St. Xavier 13-5 and IU South Bend 15-0. Adam Smithson helped out his squad out of the lead-off spot, collecting three hits, including two deep flies versus Rochester. Huntt Colton had a big day on the bump for Freed-Hardeman versus Northwestern Ohio. He went all seven innings, giving up just three hits, while striking out six. In the game versus St. Xavier, Cam Madding was seeing the ball well. He went 3-for-3, scoring three runs and driving two runs, he also connected for a homerun. Four guys connected for homeruns versus IU South Bend, Adam Smithson, Gage Burt, Jordan Carter and Cade Fuller all went yard in the 15-0 victory. This undefeated weekend made Freed-Hardeman the NAIA Ball Team of the Week.
